Circle of the Sun

I just love the National Film Board of Canada's website where you can watch so many of their films going back to the 1940's.  Saw this one over the weekend.... Circle of the Sun, shot in 1956 at the Sun Dance gathering in rural Alberta of several Native bands from the area.  Enjoy!

Buffy Sainte-Marie

Currently enamoured with Buffy St-Marie.  Saw a great doc on Knowledge Network the other night about her legendary life.  Folk star, aboriginal activist, and digital media artist.... not to mention her amazing taste in jewelry!  Great article here.

The Mountain Thief

via Mountain Thief

Saw The Mountain Thief last night at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival - an amazing film!   Shot on location in the world's largest garbage-collecting town called Promised Land and Urban, Payatas in the Philippines.  The film's actors are real life residents of the town, who participated in a series of free acting workshops called The Mount Hope Project which was organized by the filmmakersStunning images of life as a 'garbage scavenger,' literally living and working atop giant mountains of garbage.
