The Mountain Thief

Saw The Mountain Thief last night at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival - an amazing film! Shot on location in the world's largest garbage-collecting town called Promised Land and Urban, Payatas in the Philippines. The film's actors are real life residents of the town, who participated in a series of free acting workshops called The Mount Hope Project which was organized by the filmmakers. Stunning images of life as a 'garbage scavenger,' literally living and working atop giant mountains of garbage.

Nice mention in the Georgia Straight
I was featured in a great article about winter neckwear in Vancouver's beloved weekly The Georgia Straight! Click here to see the full article. The Pull-On Cowl in cream is the photo on the left.

Beautiful day at the Autumn Shift Festival last Saturday on Main Street! Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table at the Blim Market and contributed a smile and some kind words. What an amazing feeling to close the streets off to cars. Here's a list of car-free zones from Car Free Cities. I love the idea that car-free zones build peaceful communities. I'm a fan of the slow city movement - Cittaslow, and was pretty stoked to see that Cowichan Bay, BC is Canada's first Cittaslow community. Vancouver doesn't have any car-free zones that I know of. Do you?

Sadly, it's true, fall is just around the corner... but with it comes one of my favourite activities - knitting! To get you in the mood, Boutique Unicorn in Montreal has one of my Wide Scarves in cream on display in the window.
After a rainy weekend, I've been unpacking spools of wool and getting my needles going again.... but for now, tomorrow's forecast is 20 degrees and sunny... hope you can get outside and enjoy these last few rays of sun...

NEW jewelry at the Blim Monthly Market this Sunday!
I'll be donating part of my sales to the Ancient Forest Alliance
a new BC organization working to protect our endangered old-growth forests....
Can't make it to Blim this Sunday?
Sign the AFA's petition to protect British Columbia’s endangered old-growth forests like the Avatar Grove in Port Renfrew, BC.

A funny thing happened on Main St. today... I came upon 2 farmers who lovingly held a cardboard box filled with heirloom tomatoes, en route to a delivery. Following at a distance, I stealthily ambushed them at their truck, money in hand, and came away with these magic and lustrous fruits...mmm...

The two cute farmers were Brandie and Michael of Monkey in the Garden Organic Farm. Their farm is near Spences Bridge, BC, close to the stunning Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux Heritage Provincial Park. There's tons of great photos on their Flickr page. I especially love this one - an aerial shot of the cultivated rows.

And.... they have goats!

Thank yous
Thank you to everyone who came by my table at the Blim Market last Sunday. I'm working on posting up all remaining pieces in my Etsy shop. Thanks especially to the kind new owner of this one-of-a-kind necklace. I call it the lighting storm. I hope you're enjoying it (I kinda' miss it). If you're out there, drop me a line sometime and let me know how it's doing....
